More about my days
Jun. 10th, 2008 05:12 pmWell, it's been a busy few days. Saturday Kate and I went to Fairport Canal Days. It was a nice excuse to visit friends (Mark, NJ and little Caitlin) and hang out for a BBQ. We strolled the festival and browsed the craft booths (yes, my wife is a crafts fan) then Mark grilled ribs. A very nice day, all in all. We left early so we could pick up still more topsoil for the new flower beds, then rambled home.
Sunday brought swords and hand-to-hand work with Kelly, still another trip to Lowes (this time for mulch to top the flower beds) and a grand evening with
jaydecrow,
rarely,
bravoecho, Izzo-the-lj-less, and Rory-who-may-have-an-lj-soon. Much music, much Guinness, several Bushmills, and - as always - superlative pub grub (if you're in Rochester, go to Temple Bar and give them money - they deserve it).
Monday was just too bloody hot to do anything. We didn't go to the gym, didn't finish the flower beds, nada. I got up at 7:30 - it was already 81, and 56% humidity. By the time I had breakfast it was 97 ...and still climbing. We spent the day in the house (no AC, naturally, because it's an old place) sweltering in silence as it was even too hot to complain about the heat. We did leave the house once - there's a small 1930's vintage theatre in town, about a 5 minute walk from us - so we went and saw Indiana Jones. Not a bad flick, and getting to see a first run show (and sit in the AC for 2hrs) for $5? So worth it!
Today we finally finished the flower beds and started mulching - in between thunder storms. But it was good to get things done - all the digging is finished, all the edging is in, and the only reason the mulching isn't finished is because we ran out of material. That will be rectified Thursday (pictures to follow).
So it hasn’t been much of a restful vacation. However, we're currently relaxing with a few T&T’s and the tuna steaks are almost marinated enough to grill. Life, my friends, is good.
