life in . . .wherever
Mar. 26th, 2004 08:58 amWhy is it that my boss (better known as El Diablo or 'The Evil Dwarf(tm)') never listens to the people who actaully do the work? She wants to run a second unit - an advanced trauma unit fo all things - when we're already 5 staff short, and 2 more that I know of are leaving within the next 6 weeks. We've been asking for more help since november -- her response (in front of upper management) was that we were fine, we don't actually need more people, we just need to 'adjust our staffing mix'. Ajust HOW?!? you can't 'adjust' and cover a shortage in this business . . .people notice the lack of bodies providing care for them. But somehow this is all *OUR* fault, because we committed the unpardonable sin of talking about it during a meeting. It has *nothing* to do with the *outrageously* blatant favoritism that goes on (several of the staff vacation with the boss every year -- guess who get dibs on any special training or seminars, and guess who *always* leave early to go out with The Evil Dwarf).
So now, most of us are leaving due to furstration with the ineptness of our (so-called) leadership, and the general head-in-the-sand attitude exhibited by them. And I'm hearing from some of those who have left already that our exit interviews (supposedly maditory) with upper level managers are not being done -- nobody wants to know apparently. This is what happens when you work for people who are friends of upper management.
About a week ago thoughI had an interesting conversation with the manager of a different unit. It seems that SICU is interested in hiring me -- except that all departures from our unit are being 'held' until further notice. Nice. That means that the only way out is to quit outright and then re-interview. I hate my boss. Unfortunately, to quit nullify's my benefits -- including my tuition reimbursement. I'd have to put off my masters f0or another year if I did that.
I wonder if they'll at least kiss me before they screw me this time?
