Tributes, comments and geekery

Like so many of my friends, D&D was a cornerstone of my childhood. It was a small bright spot in a lot of lonely years, someplace where I could be whatever I wanted to be and have adventures undreamed of. When I heard about Gary Gygax passing yesterday I wanted to write something poignant, witty and humorous. I decided to let it stew a bit and revisit the thought today.

I still got nothing.

But Rich Berlew at Order of the Stick has it covered for me:

as does Aaron Williams at Full Frontal Nerdity: http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/ffn/index.php

I think I'm gonna have to lead a group of friends into 'Tomb of Horrors' soon, for old times sake.

It's been a bad week for folks whose work I enjoy. Jeff Healey died two days ago, and Boyd Coddington of 'American Hot Rod' and Steelers announcer Myron Cope - of the most unique voice in broadcast - both passed last week.

Slainte gentlemen.
